A month of quiet and this site is looking sad. I’m so sorry for vanishing without giving a reason.
If you follow along with my other pages then you might have already known that over the past few months my husband and I have been in the process of looking for our first home, buying, renovating and then moving in. Needless to say this process has taken about 4 months and we’re still in the process of unpacking our boxes and renovating/diying smaller projects. I never formally discussed any of this because it was all up in the air. We actually just wanted to see if we could even get pre approved for a home loan because our apartment lease was up in a few months and at the 3 month mark you have to either resign or put in your notice. To our surprise we got approved almost instantly and then the loan process began.
After we found out we qualified for a loan we found a realtor, thanks to my mother-in-law. In a matter of a week we got approved, met with our realtor and began looking at available homes. I instantly became overwhelmed with our wants/needs in relocating. The whole process was a learning experience, much like tagging along with my husband in buying his first car.
We probably looked at 20+ homes, all older and in need of major renovations. I’m not gonna lie, I felt incredibly doubtful and wanted to give up. But I kept stalking listings and waiting for the right location.
Right after a meltdown occurred, the perfect house popped up! Close to my parents, my husband’s workplace and in a very safe/well established neighborhood. I immediately contacted my realtor to see this listing in person the very next morning. We fell in love and put in an offer in less than 48 hours of the home being listed.
It took a month to close, a month to renovate enough to move-in and now we’re here. Living in our first house together, with our fur babies and feeling blessed everything fell into place for us.
I’m still in the process of getting things organized, but this house will look like our home very soon. I can’t wait to start my office. I’m working on a color palette and after I paint I’ll install the new floors (the old, original carpet smelled SO BAD!). I assumed renovating would only take a few weeks, but we’ve hardly even scratched the surface. A little mishap with the kitchen floors caused/is still causing a ton of unintended work.
For now I’m taking a break from it all. It’s a lot harder to work on house projects when you actually live in the home, so I think the timeframe will be longer than anticipated. Regardless though, we love the extra space and can’t wait to customize each room slowly.
Thank you all for your patience while I adjust. I have so many ideas for new recipes and I’m eagerly looking forward to getting back in my kitchen to perfect them.
