Going on one month of exclusively breastfeeding my son and celebrating with a smoothie fit for optimal lactation. Following along with my previous post, I’m incredibly strapped for time and energy. Caring for a newborn baby and being a first time mom has been such a shift in lifestyle. We’re still learning each other and making adjustments every day.
Breastfeeding is without a doubt the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s such a battle of heart navigating while getting your bearings as a new parent that’s still processing delivery and life in general caring for a tiny human. I can’t even begin to tell you how many breakdowns I’ve had this month. Being so sore, tired and completely drained in every sense of the word. But I’m so grateful for the ability to nurse my son and I’m going to continue pushing past these obstacles now because I know it has to get better eventually. Having said that, keeping my supply up has been my goal.
This smoothie is a combination of whole foods that aid in keeping your supply up. Of course this isn’t based on scientific evidence, it’s a general consensus the majority of women find to be beneficial – which means it’s worth trying to see if it works for you too. The oats are naturally rich in iron as is spinach and hemp seeds + almond butter are healthy fats high in protein. Giving you a well rounded meal that’s quick to make and satiating enough to keep you going strong.
