I recently heard about the magic that is food delivery, not pizza takeaway or those nasty frozen tv dinner meals that are full of processed junk. Actual FOOD! Made with organic ingredients, no animal-products and full of flavor. I never knew such a thing existed, until Veestro. The incredible meal delivery service that creates such lovely dishes and sends them anywhere in the continental U.S. Needless to say, I went a little crazy on their site. I actually ordered the Starter Pack the week after moving into my new house to help transition into a kitchen that was being renovated. Then again last week, because I needed to try everything else!
Today I’m going to talk about a few of the meals, as well as my thoughts on the whole idea of meal deliver and if it’s worth it. I may or may not also have a really exciting giveaway at the very end… You’ll have to keep reading to find out! (or scroll to the very bottom, but you should totally find out the best foods to order first)
My Starter Pack included 12 individual servings of;
Veggie Empanadas with Chimcurri Sauce
Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce
Tomato Lentil Soup
Veggie Burger Patty
Three Layer Scramble
Oatmeal Breakfast Pie
Golden Chickpea Stew with Quinoa
Risotto with Butternut Squash
Savory Croquettes with Veggie Hash
Red Curry with Tofu & Veggies
I tried the Veggie Empanadas + Chimichurri Sauce first.
If I’m being completely honest, these had a slight baking soda aftertaste. The sauce helped reduce that some. I would have liked more veggies in each. It says there are over 6 total used for the filling but one of mine had a couple (potato & peas), while another had mainly peas. So that’s a shame is wasn’t a solid mix of everything.
However, I really did enjoy the overall texture and I think the chimichurri sauce made these great! Being an avid dipper/sauce addict, I only managed to use about half of what was provided. So I’m glad it was more than enough for my excessive dipping needs.
Next up was the Eggplant Casserole with Marinara Sauce. I’m glad the portion was a decent size, the sauce was more than enough – which made me happy!
I have to say that this was my absolute favorite meal from the whole pack. I was really weary on this one since cooked eggplant isn’t the nicest looking and the texture can be a bit off. But the flavor of this was so good! I’m talking, lick your plate and wish for more – good.
I love that this has such simple ingredients, the flavor was so clean. I really want to try recreating this recipe. If you could only try one thing from Veestro, I would highly recommend this Eggplant Casserole. It’s gluten-free too!
On to the Oatmeal Breakfast Pie. I did add a touch of maple syrup after I tried it, I enjoy sweeter things. This was a very filling portion, probably because it’s so dense and made from oats. I would have liked to see a little more fruit and nuts, I only had one pecan in my portion. But overall it was delicious, very similar to my baked blueberry oatmeal recipe. I found it to be comforting and a nice treat to start the day with.
If I’m being completely honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Spring into Action juice I tried out. Probably because I’m very particular about juices, as I mentioned above – I like things to be pretty sweet. I went with a juice that had good reviews so I’m assuming I’m just not a fan of the last ingredient (Sacha inchi protein powder), It had an aftertaste I wasn’t fond of. So I used it to make a fruit smoothie with a couple of bananas.
Basically anything pizza, calzone and/or wrapped in dough is delicious. I started with the Starter Pack and actually made a second order soon after to try out everything else. I’m a huge fan of these pizzas (this was the Pizza Napoletana). The flavor is really fantastic, I’m kind of a pizza addict so I totally approve! I love that they’re all very low-calorie too. It’s a personal size pizza but after you eat the entire thing you actually feel good. It’s not too heavy but it is just the right portion to leave you satisfied.
I think I’d prefer larger portions on a few of the dishes (like the soups), but I understand I was raised on southern serving sizes, so pairing something like this with a big salad would fill me up more.
Everything baked/reheated very well. It didn’t have that odd taste conventional TV dinners typically have. It should also be noted that I did not use a microwave for any of my reheating.
You certainly get what you pay for. As much as I know $8-11 is average per meal, it’s pricey if you’re on a budget. But for a quick option that’s not only vegan, but gluten-free (most are), non gmo and preservative-free – I can’t really complain. Especially since most everything I tried out was so tasty.
Overall I really enjoyed everything I was able to try out.
The ingredients are clean, I would/will definitely order again now that I know exactly what I liked. Probably during a good sale to make it worthwhile.
I highly recommend Veestro to those of you that like having frozen meals on hand. I personally like a balance of homemade and store-bought/eating out when it comes to food. I feel good knowing these are a whole heck of a lot healthier for you compared to almost everything I’ve ever had that’s pre made. A company that’s upfront with their ingredients, has everything clearly listed with all of the nutritional information scores big in my book! I’m so excited to see what they add to their list of meals next!
Veestro contacted me through Instagram after I purchased product with my own money, I was sent extra product for review. I keep transparency with my readers/followers so I want you all to know when I’m sent something for review. However, please know that if I take the time to share it – that means I 100% stand by the product(s) and my views fully align with the company I am promoting.1
