I came across an account on Instagram that posts things I wish I could. In terms of truly voicing my honest opinions on animal cruelty, being vegan and having compassion for everything around you. But I lack courage to stand up for what I believe in due to being put down for my beliefs.
To do a bit of back-tracking. The other day I did my typical grocery haul for the week. The market I shop at is very busy, thus tons of people. During my, I’d say 40 minutes shopping (due to crowdedness) I was ran into 5 times, pushed twice and one person actually verbally voiced there discontentment at me (my cart pushed completely out of the way) at taking too long and not moving faster. Mind you a modest 30 seconds elapsed. Not one of these people acknowledged me, looked me in the eyes, or simply excused themselves.
It was at that very moment I lost a bit more hope in humanity. Is humility an actual quality we must seek out? I assumed it was genetically ingrained as a child, but I’m sadly mistaken. Not only did I encounter every instance I faced with a smile as well as an apology, but I brushed it off because I’m better than that.
Now I’m not sharing this to gain some false sense of accomplishment, I merely wanted to express the fact that there are good and bad people in the world. Ones that have basic etiquette when in public places and ones that do not. It absolutely saddens me that some choose to put themselves above others. They are more important because of some false belief they have based on shotty morals/upbringing.
So this brings me back to the fellow I stumbled upon last night. He posted the most saddening photo of two pigs in a slaughterhouse. On top of the image it red; “Animals are the innocent casualties of the world view that asserts that some lives are more valuable than others, that the powerful are allowed to exploit the powerless and that the weak must be sacrificed for the greater good”.
Now obviously I’m a sensitive person, if you didn’t guess that already, but this put me in tears instantly. “Why?” you may ask? Simply because of it’s truth. We as humans put ourselves above others, as well as farm animals because we believe it’s our right to do so. They serve us. However that couldn’t be more wrong.
Our societies beliefs are based upon pervious generations from before, that have instilled this upon us. What makes that right in any way, shape or form? Just because were told to do it that makes it right? Just because farm animals can’t defend themselves does not mean we can exploit that. They’re abused, tortured, taken from there families, malnourished, full of antibiotics and then slaughtered. All in the name of keeping us “alive”. Well, let’s think about that. I’m not going to do the break down on all the facts and figures but feeding, injecting and killing these animals causes more harm than good. Consuming them applies zero benefit to our health, in fact just the opposite. People are now increasingly developing antibiotic immunities, cancer, heart disease and type two diabetes (all nutrition based/related matters) due to the increase in consumption, increase in production and increase in action taken to provide this demand.
Now I hate telling people; “you must live a whole foods, plant-based diet”. But hey, it’s true. At the very least consuming more fruits/vegetables daily should be your goal to truly thrive.
Now I’m going to wrap this up. I’m feeling heated and as much as I’d love to rant more, it’s time for me to step away and sleep.
I hope that to anyone that takes the time to read this, absorb what I’m saying and truly feel my emotion, understand that I am merely voicing my own opinions. This is how I feel and what I believe. If you choose another belief, then fine. I’m not looking for a debate, nor do I wish to ever. This is my blog and these are my thoughts.
Please take the time to research what you’re eating, where it’s from, how it’s made and why you “need” it. Remember, being alive doesn’t mean you’re truly living. Eat to live, don’t live to eat.
