The Efficient Vegan Cookbook

“Whole food recipes that will change your perception of the plant-based lifestyle”
Today I’m bringing you a review on something a little different. I normally share products, but today it’s a cookbook! An absolutely lovely cookbook at that.
To start, I wanted to share that I was sent this. All thoughts/feelings are my own and to give the best review possible I gave myself months reading it and trying out as many recipes as I could. So let’s jump into it!
From the get go I’m very pleased with the book as a whole, it’s small, simplistic yet very well diverse without being too difficult or hard to understand. Most books are definitely above basic/average cooking skills and can quickly become very frustrating, but The Efficient Vegan is very straight forward and easily explained – which I love!
You get over 8 categories of food types to browse through, from dips to desserts. As well as a breakdown on veganisim, common kitchen terms explained and they even include a shopping list with meal plans at the very end (more on that later). So tons of variety and you start to learn the basics and ways of taking those basics to create any and everything you so desire. I absolutely love that concept, making a batch of tortillas from scratch and then using that to make tacos. You then feel empowered, knowing you don’t need to go out and buy staples like that because it’s just as easy to make at home, in bulk and you know exactly what’s going into it! I’m all about that efficiency in the kitchen. Why buy it if you can bake/make it? It’s beautiful and any cookbook that encourages that concept makes me a very happy girl.
Below I’ve included a few shots of recipes I’ve made and my overall impressions on each one, I followed the recipes exactly. I wish I could have shared/made them all for you, but I’ve been super busy.
Cheddar Herb Biscuits:
Made these for my Thanksgiving Day dinner. They were super easy and very delicious! The only change I made was cutting them out into heart-shaped biscuits 🙂 I definitely plan on making these my go to side for future dinners!
Tomato Basil Soup:
Another really simple but delicious recipe. I made a bulk batch and added in a bit of almond milk just to make it creamier. This is a staple recipe for some cozy comfort food.
Who doesn’t love guac?! I love making different recipes and this is a basic version with tons of flavor. I love simplicity, it’s quick and easy but totally guilt-free! The only change I made to this was adding a few yellow cherry tomatoes since I had some on hand.
Super versatile recipe that can be left basic or kicked up with cacao! I decided to make the batter with 1 tbsp of cacao powder and then every other pancake I alternated with banana slices and cacao nibs. Topped it off with organic maple syrup. So good! Next time I plan on using a sweetened almond milk and trying more fruit combos. I love how easy these were to make, the density was perfection. This will be my go to base for breakfast now. You can get super creative and add plant-based protein powder or even superfoods!
Cajun Sweet Potato Fries:
Now we all know I love my fries. I especially love sweet potatoes AND spicy food, so I knew I had to make these. Killer recipe, really hot but amazing flavor. To bring down the heat I topped mine off with a dip I mix of sriracha, veganaise and ketchup. Then I did a dollop of the guacamole. So good! I know it may look/sound weird/gross, but if you’re anything like me – you’ll love it!
So more on those meal plans. Wow, coming from someone who tries to accommodate those with crazy busy schedules, these are such a lifesaver! When all the planning and entire thought process is taken out of the picture, you don’t even have to stress. Yet again, efficiency at it’s finest here. I’m beginning to see where the name comes from… 😀
What do I think overall?
I’m in love. Without a doubt a fantastic cookbook for those looking to start a plant-based diet, anyone new to cooking or someone just looking to become more efficient in the kitchen as a whole. You really can’t go wrong with it. It’s packed full of variety and something that’s sure to please everyone. Everything is written easily without confusion and the end results are more than delicious! So, you should probably look into buying this baby. Maybe as a gift for someone? Heck, I’d just buy a second copy just for my husband.
