Now I’m not an avid traveler BUT I am OCD, so you can assume that when I do travel I pack as efficiently as possible! I’m also not fond of airport security, so I try to make that part as breezy as possible. Thought I’d share some tips that always help me out!
Before you leave:
Tell a neighbor!
If you’re going to be gone awhile it helps letting someone know that you trust! Have someone get your mail/packages, watch over your place and take care of any pets or plants that need attention (make sure you thank them properly!).
Charge those electronics!
If you’re anything like me you get bored FAST! I truly can’t travel more than a few hours or I’ll go insane! I always make sure I have my devices fully charged and bring the chargers in your carry on for quick refuels for layover flights.
Less is MORE!
There is such thing as too much variety and stuff. Plus the less you take the faster you get through security AND the less your capable of losing. Also, setting out each outfit and grouping them together when packing makes for quick choices and helpful day to day outfit planning (you could even put each outfit in a gallon zip baggy to better organize, especially traveling with children!).
Bring staple items!
Your favorite pair of jeans/shorts, some basic tees, a cute dress/skirt and shoes that go with everything! the more you bring that’s multifunctional the more outfits you can create with less items.
Keep your most important items in your carry on bag!
Don’t risk having nice things in your luggage, odds are it’ll be broken when you see it again. Keep your electronics and breakables with you at all times. Have a section for your travel documents, ID and passport for easy accessibility. Also, I like to keep one basic outfit in my carry on just incase my luggage is lost or something happens and I need a change of clothes (I’m guilty of spilling a drink all over myself while midway through a flight!).
My essentials for my carry on!
Make up bag
Scarf (planes are cold!)
Journal & pen (sketching, writing, random game of hangman!)
Snacks (if it’s a longer flight)
Gum! (for take off and landing!)
At the airport:
Wear comfy clothes!
Traveling can be stressful, so why wear something you don’t feel great in! I love to rock some leggings, long tank top/tunic, light sweater, scarf and flip flops/slip ons for security ease. Don’t bother with jewelry until after security, it’s a hassle taking it on and off. Don’t wear anything too loose, it apparently raises a red flag with security.
Grab a snack!
You can’t bring food from outside but you can buy something while in the airport. It’s nice having a snack with you just in case you get hungry on the flight and don’t have the option of something while flying (I’ve seen people bring full foot long subs lol!).
