Today I’m sharing a product that’s newer to the market. A range of protein-rich powders & bars from the awesome crew over at Fitppl. I’m especially excited to be sharing a brand that’s based right here in Texas, Austin to be exact! The entire range features high-quality ingredients and no artificial sweeteners or preservatives.

Specifically I will be sharing my thoughts on the Cocoa Blueberry Protein Powder. Packing in at only 90 calories + 16 grams of protein per serving (3 leveled scoops), the Cocoa Blueberry powder is a fantastic low-calorie option for those looking for a plant-based boost. I adore the added benefit of an eco-friendly, reusable wooden scoop too!
“Our organic, raw plant protein blend has no saturated fat, trans fat or cholesterol and provides 16 grams of easily digestible protein per serving. The perfect combination of rice, pea and hemp protein delivers a complete amino acids profile. Sustainably farmed, organic blueberries and pomegranates add a delicious flavor packed with antioxidants. Nutrient-dense organic oat grass, barley grass and spirulina supply chlorophyll, enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrients that are essential for a healthy body. Finished off with organic cocoa which has flavonoids, the plant-based substances responsible for many of its health benefits. That’s it. Clean, sustainable and wholesome. Nothing artificial. Organic and made in Texas. ”
At first I wasn’t keen on the aftertaste, if you follow the directions provided it recommends 3 leveled scoops per 6-8 ounces for a complete serving. I followed up with unsweetened almond milk and 1 frozen banana + 1/2 cup dark cherries. Blending everything until smooth. Even with the fruit, it had a very prominent greens taste, slightly gritty too. While I love the ingredients, they’re pretty potent on their own. I quickly learned that in order to love the smoothies, I needed to reduce the powder amount and up the fruit content.
My second test batch was 1 cup almond milk, 1 1/2 scoops cocoa blueberry powder + 2 frozen bananas and 1 tbsp of peanut butter. This really helped the flavor that was putting me off from the first smoothie combo. Using stronger ingredients help combat the overly “protein” aftertaste. I think it would be a fantastic post-workout treat!
You honestly can’t get much better than these ingredients, everything is sustainably sourced and organic. I truly believe this is a powerhouse blend of superfoods. However, if you’re looking for something light, this might not be your best option. I would really recommend this blend to individuals that are use to stronger flavors, including barley and spirulina, that want a high-quality protein full of health benefits. Definitely give it a try if you’re wanting a blend that’s free of fillers and artificial sweeteners, this protein is plant-pure!
