DIY Green Superfood Smoothie Starters

Yield 12

Don't let those greens go to waste! Blend them up and make a batch of smoothie starters for a quick and easy breakfast option on the go.

  1. Measure and blend everything until smooth.
  2. Pour into a silicon mold, filling to the top and freeze until set. About 4 hours minimum or overnight is best.
  3. Pop out of silicon mold and transfer to a freezer-safe bag or air-tight container.
  4. Add one smoothie starter to your high-speed blender with 8 oz. juice, non-dairy milk and/or water to blend. Adding fresh fruits and/or veggies as desired to change the taste.

My personal favorite combo is 2 green smoothie starters, 1 tbsp nut butter, 16 oz. almond milk, 1 tbsp cacao powder.

1 starter yields an 8 oz smoothie when blended with 1 cup of liquid. Totaling about 10 grams of protein, if using soy milk.

Don't have a silicon pan? Use a muffin tin and line it with two strips of parchment paper.
