When I think of seasoning, my mind instantly gravitates towards the grocery store spice aisle. It’s loaded full of everything you can think of. It’s kind of overwhelming. Especially so if you’re browsing for a blend. So many contain salt or use salt as the base. The ones that don’t are usually quite expensive or run out quickly. Which leads me to today’s recipe post. A totally easy and fun to make all-purpose seasoning blend. One that’s free of salt, so you can add it to everything without worrying about the sodium content.
I truly believe that most people are addicted to salt. I get it, it makes food more stimulating and satisfying. But it’s not necessary in abundance! That’s my issue with seasoning blends that contain it. You can only use a small amount before it becomes too salty and overpowering. But the beauty of a salt-free blend means you can add as much as you wish and it’s just pure flavor – nothing more or less. I know I’ve said salt a million times.
You can pick up most of these spices in bulk at your local Kroger or Fred Meyers grocery store. They’re really inexpensive, meaning you can double up on this recipe and have enough of a blend to last you months. Along with these spice jars, found with the kitchen goods. They make a cute gift too. Perfect for the foodie in your life this holiday season. I’ll admit, I’ve already made 4 and passed them out to family members. Saving one for myself, of course.
I love to use this blend on my baked tofu and roasted vegetables. A little goes a long way, but a lot adds a ton of flavor. You can use this blend in combination with salt as desired. That way you can really focus on adding flavor and adding the sodium as needed at the end. I like to add salt on top of my food, but that’s totally a personal preference. You do you.

All Purpose Salt-Free Seasoning Blend
Yield 1 cup
- 1/4 cup Garlic Powder
- 1/4 cup Dried Parsley
- 3 tbsp Smoked Paprika
- 3 tbsp Dried Basil
- 1/8 cup Minced Onion
- 1/8 cup Onion Powder
- 1 1/2 tbsp Coconut Sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp Celery Seed
- 3 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 tsp Cayenne (optional, for heat)
Measure and whisk together in a medium-sized bowl.
Carefully transfer to a spice storage jar and seal.
Use as needed to season anything from veggies to tofu.
Will keep for up to one year in an air-tight container.
